From My Heart

Outrunning My Shadow

By Angie Strefling August 11, 2026

I thought I was running from the ones who judged and I said did me wrong.

But then one day I woke to realize it was my own shadow all along.

Pushing and shoving until the room grew clear,

Hurting the ones who tried to stay near.

Lover, friend, or anyone that mattered

I felt if I was vulnerable I might be more shattered

I had to find a lot of faith and speak positivity into my soul

Until I finally started to believe and start to make myself whole

Nowadays, I practice loving myself more because I took a vow

To take care of myself and the ones who hold me now.

I made it up off that cold and lonely floor

I knew I was capable and deserved so much more

Some days the struggle weighs more than the last

But I am choosing the future over the past.
