My Poems

The Bald, Beautiful, and Brave Mom

By Angie Strefling July 23, 2026

This poem is dedicated to my sister Misty who battled and won against breast cancer.

I know it must feel strange when people take a second look or maybe even stare

You must think people are rude and how could they dare

But what you can’t see in their eyes is what is in their heart

They’re thinking how you are still buzzing along doing your part

You know that mom, the one that sits endlessly at every game

The one who wouldn’t miss a single minute of their child’s fame

The one who still does anything to help anyone they can

It’s you we are cheering for and are YOUR biggest fan

The one who stares thinks how you must be so strong and so brave

It’s thinking how with all the pressures of life and this awful disease you still do not cave

It’s not thinking about your skin or nails or the hair that fell out

It’s all about how you get up each day with a positive attitude and have not a doubt

I know all this because I’ve watched you fight every step of the way

Never losing your faith nor giving in to Satan’s decay

You have such humility and class and because of all those wonderful traits you possess

You are kicking cancer’s ASS!!
